Revised October 1, 2008

Kingsbury High School

Title I Family Engagement Plan

2008-2009

The faculty and staff at Kingsbury High School encourage parents to become engaged in the educational process.  We believe strongly that the school and home have a shared goal of promoting success in our students.  This engagement plan has been jointly developed by the staff, parents, and students of Kingsbury High School.  This plan establishes the expectations for parental involvement in order to promote high achievement for every student.

Kingsbury will encourage parents to become engaged in the following ways:

  1. Attend and participate in Title I Parent Meetings
  2. Serve as members of the Leadership Council and other advisory programs.
  3. Use their talents/resources to enhance the instructional programs.
  4. Utilize computer technology to monitor student academic performance
  5. Visit teachers to discuss academic and behavior performance.
  6. Complete surveys to share concerns and feedback with faculty and staff.
  7. Participate in Memphis City School Parent Training seminars.
  8. Make visitation to classes and attend programs and sport events.
  9. Support Extended-Day activities for enrichment or remedial support.

To encourage our parents to participate in the development and implementation of Kingsbury High School programs, we will do the following:

  1. Develop an “Open Door” policy where parents feel comfortable and are encouraged to regularly visit and take an active role in school planning.
  2. Ensure that all parents have been invited to a meeting informing them of Title I requirements, the school’s participation in Title I, and the right of all parents to be engaged at Kingsbury High School.
  3. Provide a flexible number of organized, on-going, and timely meetings to provide all parents an opportunity to be engaged.
  4. Provide translators to assist with language barriers with our parents.
  5. Parent engagement in the planning, review, and improvement of school programs will be facilitated through the use of Parent Meetings, Family Friendly School Surveys, and letters sent to parents.
  6. Timely information about programs at Kingsbury High School will be provided to all parents through the use of Parent meetings, teacher initiated phone communication, and parent/teacher conferences.
  7. Provide parents an overview of school curriculum, various academic assessments utilized, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet.
  8. Regularly meetings between parents and teacher will be scheduled for the purpose of informing parents on academic student performance including curriculum and assessment information, and student behavior performance.
  9. Involve parents in planning and developing school improvement projects.
  10. Parents will participate in meetings and school surveys in order to jointly develop a school/home compact.
