ROMEO AND JULIET @ THE ORPHEUM
"Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight!/ For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night." This is just one of many beautifully laid out lines from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Our 8th grade got the awesome chance to see this epic tragedy within the beautiful confines of Memphis' historic theatre, the Orpheum. Check out the photos!!!

THINK SHOW !!!
Kingsbury Students working diligently to present a wonderful 2011-2012 ThinkShow! This year, our sixth grade showcased the wonders of our universe, creating a gorgeous space display throughout our lower floor halls. 7th Graders decided to present the wonders of the human anatomy, including the intricate framework of our organ systems. Check out our photos of a lifesize, organs-intact human body below!

As Homecoming comes around, students celebrate a week of Falcon Pride. Our boy's basketball team has climbed to first place, and our students are pushing their academics to new levels- so we ask them...
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GROW UP?

A NEW YEAR: A NEW LEARNING ADVENTURE BEGINS
School is in full swing at Kingsbury! Check out some of our students working diligently to increase their intellectual capacities!

CHRISTMAS @ KINGSBURY
Thanks to Mrs. Riser and Mr. Brooks, Kingsbury pulled off an amazing holiday concert! Students from our Orchestra class played classic Christmas songs "Jolly Old. St. Nicholas" and "Jingle Bells", Principal Mackin gave an exciting reading of "Twas the Night Before Christmas", and Mrs. Riser's band showed off their own compositional skills by playing pieces that some of the students wrote themselves!

Kingsbury Students Throw BULLYING to the Wind

At Kingsbury, we are making huge strides to stomp out bullying and it's negative consequences. Last week our students participated in an activity to help spread awareness of how bullying can hurt other students and affect our classroom cultures.
Three days of RED, YELLOW, GREEN - much like a traffic light, our students were asked to 1.) Stop before you say or do something that could make another student feel hurt, 2.) Be cautious of of the feelings of those around you, and 3.) GO when you can help bring someone up instead of bringing them down!

Last Friday, all homerooms were handed green balloons and asked to write common bullyingwords or themes on them. At the end of the day we gathered on the football field and threw them to the wind. At Kingsbury, we do not want or need these negative words- we're too busy worrying about our community and future!

R E A D I N G I S M A G I C ! ! ! ! ! !
As part of the Reading is Fundamental program, our students are asked to contemplate the importance of reading and literacy in their own lives.
Below:: Mrs. Shearin helped put all of this together and continues to be one of the greatest librarians in the history of libraries.

Below:: Students gather for our very exciting "Reading is Magic" Magic Show

Thanks to READING IS FUNDAMENTAL, every FALCON student has been able to pick and keep a book of their own choosing. What makes this program special is that it is not the teacher nor the librarian who chooses which books the students get -- it is their own. No matter if they want a collection of scary stories, a book on how to draw anime, or a quick look into the history of the Quinceañera, the student becomes his or her own advocate on the road to literacy.

FALCON HOMECOMING
Homecoming week was amazing! Not just for the students either! Students, faculty, and administration joined in on the fun. From the silly clothes of TACKY DAY to the empowering day of MAROON and WHITE, everyone participated and helped us overcome Westside Middle with an amazing football victory. Major props to all Falcon football players, Falcon cheerleaders, and Falcon Band Players!
GO FALCONS!!!
