DEMOCRATIC SCHOOL GOVERNANCE

Student Assessment & Support  | Democratic Governance |

Parents are vital to the success of Middle College High School. Parents of Middle College students serve on several committees such as the School Leadership Council, Emergency Preparedness Committee, Discipline Committee, Safety Committee, and School Improvement Plan. Many volunteer as hall monitors, assist in curricular and extra-curricular activities and in athletic programs. They also participate in parent workshops sponsored by Title I. The Title I Center for Parental Involvement distributes monthly newsletters and brochures to inform parents of strategies that they may use to improve their child’s education. Compacts between students, parents, teachers, and Middle College High School’s principal are signed yearly to affirm their commitment to education.

Decision-making is shared among all school stakeholders to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard and respected as policies and procedures are developed for personnel, curriculum, budgets, student life, and all functions involving the daily operation of the school community.

The following organizations are responsible for school governance:
  • Middle College High School (MCHS) Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA)
  • Excel/Early College Planning Committee
  • School Leadership Council
  • Coordinating Council (joint council between Southwest Tennessee Community College and Middle College)
  • MCHS Student Council
