From the desk of Mr. Brett Lawson, Principal
Walk down the halls of Overton High School and you're likely to remember the movie and television show "Fame," which made the New York City School of the Creative and Performing Arts a fantasy in the mind of teens.
Overton's Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) program features specialized course offerings in Visual Arts, vocal music, broadcasting, creative writing, band, string orchestra, music theory, dance, piano, digital art and design, and drama. All of the programs repeatedly garner awards, reflecting the talent and dedication of both the student and teachers of the school.
While the arts at Overton may be highly visible, academics are certainly not ignored. Overton offers enriched courses in English, history, science, mathematics, computer science and two foreign languages.
Advanced placement courses for possible college credit are offered in biology, calculus, senior and junior English, United States history, music theory, and Studio Art I and II. Regular academic courses and/or technological courses may be combined with a program of study in the arts.
