For our "Buy One Get One Free" Book Fair in May, please make suggestions for summer reading lists for your students. I will specifically order books from your summer reading lists if they are available through Scholastic Books. Please email me your lists by the

National Geographic to Bring Wild Animals for Exciting, Exploratory Lessons at Ridgeway Middle

Comcast, National Geographic to Donate New

Educational Tools

Here is the official Memphis City Schools Press Release

from February 15th, 2007

Memphis, Tenn. – By this time tomorrow, Friday, February 16, it might look like a zoo passed through Ridgeway Middle School. That’s because 450 students will have already come face to face with a pack of wild animals during a stimulating session on nature and wildlife.

Tomorrow, the National Geographic Channel’s Mike Helthaus will visit the school as part of the “Everyday Explorer” program organized through a partnership with Comcast. The program is designed to teach kids the importance of exploring and respecting the world around them.

Helthaus will use an interactive multimedia presentation to explain the story of how he became an explorer. He’ll also use his one-of-a-kind “Critter Cam” to provide students with a unique perspective on the animal kingdom and show them ways that they can help preserve the natural habitats of animals and improve the quality of life in their own communities. To add a little excitement to the lessons, Helthaus will also have a few wild animals with him.

A highlight of the event will be a donation of new software, maps and other learning tools from Comcast and National Geographic. The materials aim to inspire future classes at Ridgeway Middle to open their eyes to the world around them. The event will start at 9 a.m. in the Ridgeway Middle School Auditorium.
