H1N1 Update...

Important Announcement about H1N1 (Swine Flu)

The Office of Coordinated School Health, led by Dr. Nieika Parks, Director, will continue to work closely with the Memphis and Shelby County Health Department to monitor the H1N1 situation within our schools. As the District receives information, we will continue to provide principals with the most updated procedures, protocols and guidelines regarding H1N1 (Swine Flu).

CSH recommends that schools continue to disseminate the Centers for Disease Control’s information on preventing the flu including:

* Wash your hands frequently with warm, soapy water.
* Use tissue to cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.
* Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs often spread this way
* Stay home if you get sick: Wait 24 hours once fever is gone (without the use of medication to reduce fever) before returning to work or school). The CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

Please take a moment to view Dr. Parks’ interview located on the MCS website for critical information regarding H1N1. http://www.mcsk12.net/ While caution and due diligence regarding the H1N1 virus are warranted and expected, please do not require children to have a doctor's note for obtaining an excused absence or for return to school. Certainly, if the child appears to still be suffering from flu-like symptoms, you should ask the parent to keep him or her at home until he or she has fully recovered for 24 hours.
