Human Rights Watch: Contest

The winners of this contest will have their work posted on this website!

Directions:

  1. Search current newspapers, magazines, and web sites for stories about people (or groups) that protect OR violate the human rights of other people.
  2. Complete the Human Rights Watch Entry Form, and find a picture that illustrates your article.
  3. Print out the picture on a separate sheet of paper.
  4. Make sure your name is on the Entry Form and the photograph.
  5. Turn both sheets of paper into the appropriate bin in my room.

What are Human Rights?

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was written in 1948 in order to protect people from mistreating each other. The world had just witnessed the horrors of the Holocaust, and many people wanted to do something to stop it from happening ever again. As a detective, you job is to find out how well the world's people and governments are following the Universal Declaration of Human Rights!!

Where can I search for articles about human rights?

Articles containing human rights violations are in every newspaper! If you know the human rights, you will find many newspaper articles about human rights violations and people trying to protect human rights. All you have to do is search!!
