"Officer in the School" is a program in which police officers serve in schools as direct links to students. They serve as mentors, public relations, security, and other duties as assigned by the principal.

These officers also provide students with information and guidance about law enforcement careers. And of course, Officers in the School encourages students to form positive relationships with law enforcement personnel.

The OIS program has been in effect since the early 80's and plays a major role with supervision, care, and custody of students while they are at school.

Officer Mark LeSure

One of Memphis' Finest

Officer Mark LeSure is in his second year at Trezevant as an Officer in the School. He graduated from Westwood High School in 1984 and served in the United States Military Police for 8 years with tours in Germany, Korea, Arizona, and Oklahoma.

After military service, Mark LeSure attended Christian Brothers University and graduated with a BS in Psychology. He taught 5th grade for 5 years in the Shelby County School System.

Office LeSure has been with the Memphis Police Department since 1992. He is the father of 2 children; a daughter age 15, and a son age 18. He loves to play golf in his spare time and spends countless hours volunteering in the community. Officer LeSure is currently initiating a program to help students get into college.
