Message from the Superintendent

Welcome to our new Memphis City Schools Web site! We hope you will find that the recent improvements to the site make it easier than ever for you to quickly access the information and resources you need. I invite you to visit our Web site often to keep abreast of all the great things happening in Memphis City Schools, and to learn about ways you can become involved in our schools. Whether you are a parent, a student, an educator, or a member of the community, your input and involvement is welcomed and encouraged.

As you browse the Web site, I trust that it will be apparent to you that nothing is more important to us at Memphis City Schools than the education of the children of Memphis. As Superintendent, I am honored to be a part of educating, nurturing, and inspiring our city’s children and giving them the foundation they need for a successful future.

As the Third Century Greek writer Diogenes Laertius wrote, “The foundation of every state is the education of its youth.” Nothing is more important to a civilization than the education of its children. At Memphis City Schools, we take that responsibility very seriously. Maintaining high expectations, placing a high value on academic achievement, continuing to ensure the safety and welfare of our children, and encouraging community and parental involvement are among the many ways that we are working hard at MCS to provide the quality education that our children deserve.

We are proud of our schools and of the care we take to ensure that quality teaching and learning takes place every day in every school. It is an honor and a privilege for me to work hand in hand with you in providing the finest education for our children. As Abraham Lincoln said, education is “the most important subject which we as a people may be engaged in.” By working together, we can continue to give our children a world-class education that will become the foundation to a successful future, not only for our children, but for our entire community.
