Community Partnerships
Community Partnerships play a major role in helping the district achieve its strategic goals, which include student achievement, healthy youth development and safety. By connecting the community to the classroom, we are building a bridge to the future of Memphis.
- Adopt-A-School Program
- Memphis Goes Back to School Week / Principal for a Day
- Employee Combined Giving Campaign

The Adopt-A-School Program helps to establish productive partnerships between schools and community supporters from local businesses, civic groups, faith-based and community organizations. These partnerships serve as a commitment by both the school and the adopter to promote the academic achievement and personal growth of students.
Donations are typically made according to the particular needs of a school and resources of the adopter. School adopters provide whatever they can, including time, service, monetary donations and/or in-kind goods.
ALL that is required is the desire to help!

Memphis Goes Back to School Week/ Principal for a Day
The Memphis Goes Back to School Week initiative was designed to encourage individuals in Memphis to rally around Memphis City Schools and make a commitment to support academic achievement and community involvement throughout the school year. The goal of the program is to inspire parents, grandparents, community and faith-based leaders, MCS alumni and elected officials to build strong long-term relationships and partnerships with schools to help create the best possible learning environments for the future leaders of Memphis to flourish.
During Memphis Goes Back to School Week, hundreds of supporters across Memphis and Shelby County serve as honorary Principal for a Day in our schools and experience first hand the triumphs and challenges of “running” a school. Each we are pleased that many of our Principal for a Day participants go on to officially “adopt” the school where they served.
MCS Combined Giving Campaign (Employees)
Memphis City Schools' inaugural Combined Giving Campaign was held from September 24 – November 16, 2007. The campaign gave MCS employees an opportunity to help one or more of four participating charitable organizations: United Way of the Mid-South, Black United Fund, ArtsMemphis or LeMoyne-Owen College.
